The Y has worked in the childcare and afterschool space for years, and our holistic approach helps children improve their study habits and reading skills, build healthy eating and physical activity habits, and gain exposure to the arts, STEM (science, technology, engineering and math), global learning and more.
Afterschool programs can turn the hours after school into a productive learning time and make learning fun. We are willing and confident in our ability to provide safety and supervision to help children continue to learn, grow and thrive. Our Ys offer member discounts on afterschool care and have three different options for childcare in Greensboro, NC, Jamestown and Rockingham County, from Kindergarten through Middle School.

COVID-19 Protocols
If a child/individual tests positive in a group, the exposed children in that group whether vaccinated or unvaccinated do not need to isolate. Children must wear a mask for 10 days after the initial exposure and monitored closely for symptoms. It is recommended for children to be tested after 5 days.
If a child/individual is vaccinated or unvaccinated and showing symptoms, he or she should be tested. If a child/individual tests positive for COVID, the individual must isolate for 5 days and must be symptom-free for 24 hours without the use of medication before returning. The child/individual who tested positive must wear a mask for an additional 10 days while in the program.

All Day Drop-In Care
Looking for a safe, nurturing and fun place for your children to go when school is out? The Ragsdale Family YMCA offers an all-day drop-in care program for kids currently enrolled in kindergarten through middle school! Kids will play games in our gym, spend time outdoors, swim and build lasting friendships, all under the eyes of our watchful, engaged staff.

Bus Monitors and Homework Helpers
Do you have a passion for working with youth? The Spears YMCA after-school program has volunteer and employment opportunities starting in August until June each year. If you would like to be a bus monitor or volunteer working with children, we would love to have you!
The YMCA is looking for dedicated people who want to spend time with children in enrichment activities and ensure a safe and fun environment. Help us accomplish that this school year!
All interested volunteers should fill out a volunteer application or please contact Catherine Stallings, Family Services Director.
